Practices of Culturally Sensitive Care
Providing culturally safe and sensitive care is a key component of quality care delivery today. It involves the delivery of care that meets the cultural and social needs of patients (Stubbe, 2020). Culturally sensitive care is important because it helps to reduce disparities in care delivery among populations. While providing this type of care, it is important to ensure that individuals are respected and treated as human beings (Kadivar et al., 2018). Human dignity is important because it ensures the provider recognizes the capacities of patients and provides services without undermining their values.
Throughout the course, I have learned the importance of providing culturally sensitive care and ensuring the integrity of human dignity. The four key aspects that must be observed include awareness of one’s culture, attitudes toward one’s culture, understanding that different cultures exist, and having cross-cultural skills (Kaihlanen et al., 2019). These components make up the core of culturally sensitive care and promote respect for human dignity. One of the strengths I have in this area of care is the ability to interact freely with people. I have an interest in learning about other cultures and this makes it easier to provide care across all populations. Secondly, I have deep knowledge of the components of culturally sensitive care and how to maintain human dignity. Core values like integrity, honesty, and kindness have helped me to maintain human dignity.

Various personal limitations make it difficult for healthcare providers to maintain cultural competence. One of the weaknesses that limit the delivery of culturally sensitive care is time (Shepherd et al., 2019). For instance, it takes a lot of time to understand the values and needs of patients based on their cultural backgrounds. To address this issue, cultural competence training can be an important resource (Jongen et al., 2019). The training can help to guide providers to respond to cultural differences with greater agility and uncover barriers to this practice.
